As we come together to celebrate the festive season, Greater Manchester Neighbourhood Watch Association is reminding residents to stay vigilant and help keep our communities safe. Christmas is a time for joy, generosity, and connection — but it can also bring opportunities for thieves looking to take advantage of busy homes and darker evenings.
A few simple steps can make a big difference:
· Keep gifts out of sight: Avoid placing presents where they can be seen from windows or doors.
· Lock up, even when you’re in: Opportunistic thieves only need a moment.
· Light up your home: Use timers or leave a light on to give the impression someone is in.
· Secure deliveries: Parcels left on doorsteps are easy targets — consider safe delivery options.
· Dispose of packaging discreetly: Boxes for high‑value items can advertise what’s inside your home.
· Look out for neighbours: A quick check-in or a watchful eye helps protect the whole street.
This Christmas, let’s continue to support one another and keep Greater Manchester a safe place to live, work, and celebrate. Together, we can make sure the only surprises this season are the ones wrapped under the tree.
Wishing you a safe and peaceful Christmas from everyone at Greater Manchester Neighbourhood Watch Association.
